Seahouses Coastguard Rescue Team and Howick Coastguard Rescue Team were called to Beadnell harbour at around 4.40pm on Monday, February 22, following reports of a dog stuck in the water.
On arrival they found a 17-year-old lurcher named Banjo in the harbour, with his worried owner on the harbour wall.

From there he carried the dog through the water and out of the harbour mouth and onto the beach where he was safely returned uninjured to his owner.
A Seahouses Coastguard Rescue Team spokesman said: “The first informant did the right thing by calling the coastguard to assist, rather than entering the water themselves.
"We advise never to follow an animal into the water to attempt rescue as this could result in the person getting into difficulty, while the animal makes it safely ashore and our teams are equipped with necessary PPE and equipment to carry out a rescue attempt safely.
